“Is It Worth Doing Maternity Photos… Even If I’m Not Sure I Want Them?”

If you’re pregnant and thinking about maternity photos — but you’re not totally sold on the idea — you’re not alone. A lot of parents-to-be hesitate for perfectly real, human reasons:

  • “I don’t feel like myself right now.”

  • “I feel big and awkward — what if I don’t look good?”

  • “I’m already pretty far along… is it too late?”

  • “What would I even wear?”

  • “Do I really need maternity photos?”

  • “Between baby expenses and life… can I actually afford this?”

If you’ve had even one of those thoughts, this post is for you ❤️
Let’s talk honestly about maternity photography — what it can be, what it doesn’t have to be, and how to make it feel comfortable, natural, and totally you.

First — You’re Allowed to Feel Unsure

Pregnancy is emotional. Your body is changing, your brain is full of a million to-dos, and the idea of stepping in front of a camera can feel… intimidating.

Here’s the truth:
Maternity photos are not about perfection. They’re about preserving a moment in time you can’t get back — the season when your baby was still safely tucked inside you.

You don’t need to:

  • feel glamorous

  • know how to pose

  • love every change your body is going through

That’s my job — I guide, pose, flatter, support, and create a space where you can simply be.

Most parents who were once unsure tell me afterward:

“I almost didn’t do this… and now I’m so glad I did.”

“But… What If I Don’t Feel Beautiful Right Now?”

That’s a totally valid feeling! But also — you might be seeing yourself through the lens of discomfort, not reality!

With thoughtful posing, soft light, beautiful fabrics, and angles that celebrate your shape — the bump becomes art, not something you’re trying to hide.

I specialize in:

  • gentle, flattering posing

  • natural connection rather than stiff “smile at the camera” shots

  • creating images where you look strong, serene, and deeply maternal

This isn’t about looking like a model. It’s about honoring the incredible work your body is doing.

“What Would I Even Wear?” (Good news — you don’t have to worry.)

If wardrobe stress is stopping you — breathe. I’ve already solved that part 🫶

I have a curated client closet full of beautiful maternity dresses, draped fabrics, cozy knits, and classic silhouettes designed to flatter growing bumps.

You can choose a look that feels like your vibe and you’re also welcome to bring your own! I don’t try to force any particular style on you because we want the pictures to be something that feels right for YOU!

Studio Session vs Outdoor Session — Which One’s Right for You?

Both options are beautiful… they just tell different stories.

Studio Maternity Session

Perfect if you want:

  • a calm, private, controlled environment

  • soft, timeless, artistic images

  • flexibility with lighting and wardrobe

  • comfort (temperature, seating, breaks — everything is right there)

Studio sessions can be minimalist, dreamy, dramatic, or simple and natural. They’re great for anyone who feels shy about being photographed in public.

Outdoor Maternity Session

Perfect if you want:

  • natural light + scenic backgrounds

  • movement, breeze, sunshine, golden hour glow

  • a storytelling, “this is our life right now” feel

Outdoor photos feel organic and emotionally rich — especially with partners or little ones included. They’re wonderful if you love connection and movement in your images.

“Is It Too Late to Book?” (Probably not.)

Ideally, maternity photos happen around 30–34 weeks, when:

  • the bump is beautifully rounded

  • you’re still comfortable enough to move and pose

But life doesn’t always follow the perfect schedule — and that’s okay.

I regularly photograph:

  • earlier bumps

  • later-stage pregnancies

  • “we almost skipped this but changed our mind!” sessions

If a maternity session matters to you, I will make it work!

“Between baby expenses and life… can I actually afford this?”

That’s such a real question — and the good news is, a maternity session doesn’t have to feel like a huge splurge. With me, it can be simple, meaningful, and totally achievable. Here are the perks:

  • 💛 The session fee is just $150 (truly a steal for a full, guided maternity experience).

  • 📸 You also receive three complimentary images — so you’re already walking away with beautiful portraits, even before choosing anything additional.

  • 🫶 Many families treat their maternity session as an “interview” to see how we connect before booking newborn photos.

  • 🪄 If you choose an in-studio session, you also get a peek at my fully stocked newborn studio — props, wraps, outfits, sample images — everything ready for baby’s big day.

So… Is It Worth It?

Only you can answer that, but here’s what I see, time and time again - people don’t regret taking maternity photos. They regret not taking them.

These images become:

  • the first page of your baby’s story

  • the proof of the incredible thing you and your body are doing right now

  • the way your child someday sees how loved they were before they were even born

And years from now, when pregnancy feels like a blur — you’ll have something tangible to remember it by.

If You’re Thinking About It… Let’s Talk!

If you’re on the fence, you don’t have to decide right this second. Reach out, ask questions, and tell me your worries — I’m happy to talk through anything!

Whether we create something cozy and simple… or bold and artistic… my goal is the same - to help you feel comfortable, seen, and beautifully documented in this fleeting season.
