Every single baby that comes to my studio mesmerizes me. They are just perfect little bundles of baby magic! But sometimes, you get what we call a ‘unicorn baby’ which is the mythical magical baby that just sleeeeeps!! It’s amazing! This girl was my latest unicorn baby! She just slept through her entire newborn session and let me pose her every which way without making any fuss. She is also beautiful in any color I put her in so I got to have some creative fun! P.S. This was a MINI newborn session!! She was done in just over an hour! I know!!
Newborn Workshop
Last weekend I had the amazing opportunity to go to Iowa and learn from one of the industries leading team of newborn photographers, the Newborn Nerds. It is always so fantastic to watch other photographers do their ‘thing’ and get some tips and tricks along the way. Studio newborn photography has been my passion since I opened up my business in 2014. I love sitting there with a fresh new baby and their parents who are in awe of them and creating memories and artwork for them to keep forever. There’s nothing quite like it! However, over the years I have come across so many parents who have expressed regret at not being able to afford newborn pictures at the time, or just simply being overwhelmed by the time it takes for a full newborn session and it has made me so sad that they don’t have those fleeting moments captured. So now, I would like to proudly introduce my NEWBORN MINI SESSIONS! These are a condensed version of a full newborn session (not so much time in the studio) with 5 digital images included (more affordable). It checks all the boxes for those clients who just want a few good pictures of their newborn!
However, there are limitations to newborn mini sessions; parents and siblings are not included, it takes time to pose a newborn so it limits posing and fewer poses means fewer images to choose from. If these are concerns for you, then a full newborn session is what you are after! In a full newborn session I am able to do SO much more with baby and I have the time to let them settle into a pose if they become fussy. I am able to incorporate parents and siblings into the session to preserve beautiful memories and I am able to use more props and outfits. With a full newborn session you will get at least double the amount of images to choose from when you are looking through your gallery and making your newborn album. See below for a comparison chart:

Snow Day!
Colorado FINALLY had a good snow day so we took the opportunity to get out and have some fun! It was a SUPER quick mini session as the temperature was ridiculous, but we still captured some adorable images for mamma!

It’s not too late!
It’s not too late to book your newborn session if they are older than the ‘ideal’ age!
Photographing newborns is such a blessing and it NEVER gets old posing and capturing their sweet first days. It’s true, ‘newborns’ are only little for such a short time, and the more days they spend in the world and away from the womb the more they adjust to spreading out! It is for this reason that newborn photographers like to photograph baby as soon as possible (ideally between 5-14 days new) after their arrival because they are much more comfortable being posed in those super squishy adorable poses! However, life happens and sometime weeks can go by before I see baby for their newborn session! There are SO many reasons…..sometimes babies need to spend a little extra time in the hospital, or mamma has had a rough few weeks or (this has actually happened!) your original newborn photographer didn’t do a good job! Often times though, parents think that it is TOO LATE to get newborn pictures, but that is not the case!!
Photographing ‘older newborns’ is absolutely adorable! They are becoming more curious and alert and often I will get lots of eye contact and adorable expressions! Typically they prefer to be wrapped up and this is perfect for capturing all their sweet little details. I still love posing baby with their families, as well as posing them in props to capture how small they still are! If I’m lucky, they usually finally wear themselves out and fall into a deep sleep long enough (their sleep cycles are shorter!) for me to capture some images with them unwrapped!!

Tummy Time Milestone
It’s incredible how quickly the time passes in the first year! While it doesn’t look like they are doing much (except pee, poop and eat!), these tiny humans are growing at an impressive rate and developing their strength and personalities! I love capturing their first Milestones just as much as their first few days!
The first milestone is at around 4 months when they are starting to hold their head up high and roll over! It’s so fun to see them make eye contact and have a little workout!! Here’s some images from a recent session!! You can just hear the laughter!!
